XP Issues

ERROR MESSAGE: "The Sound decompression software has not been installed properly. Please run setup and try again. This program will now terminate." ERROR MESSAGE: "The sound software is not installed properly or has been disabled. For more information see the READ ME file installed with this program. This title will terminate."

This problem occurred with the introduction of XP Service Pack 1 (SP1). This is also applicable to later versions of Windows XP. We have created a patch to fix the problem.

 

In the window that appears Click the Save button
Click on the Drop down arrow for "Save In:" and select Desktop
Click on the Save Button
Close all windows to get back to the desktop
Double click on the "SP1fix.exe" file on your desktop
Follow the instructions to install the patch

Troubleshooting For Windows XP Users

Many of the Dorling Kindersley titles were designed for Windows 95/98. If you are having trouble running your program on Windows XP we may be able to get it to run using the Compatibility Mode feature,

please try the following:

Click on Start

Click on All Programs

Go To DK Interactive Learning or DK Multimedia

Put your mouse pointer over (name of the program) to highlight it and RIGHT click once with the RIGHT button of your mouse

Click on Properties in the Menu that appears

Click on the Compatibility Tab at the Top

Put a check mark next to Run in Compatibility Mode for Windows 95, and put a check mark next to Run in 256 colors

Click Apply & OK

Insert the CD into the CD-ROM drive

If a window appears asking if you want to run the program click "NO"

You will need to start the program every time from the programs list

Click on Start

Click on All Programs

Go To DK Interactive Learning or DK Multimedia

Click on (name of the program)
